Most of you will recognize Sally, the sign spinner for Round Table. She stands at the corner of Jefferson and Lake Washington Boulevards most afternoons and always has a smile and a wave for the passerbys.

Our Bunco group has been meeting once a month for over 35 years, rotating hostess duties throughout the year. Most of us have our roots in West Sacramento and some have been friends since grammar school. We have supported each other through births & deaths, marriages & divorces, sickness & diets, career changes & retirements, kids & grandkids.....you name it! Our saddest day together was when we had to say bye to long-time Babe Cheri who passed away last November.

Debbie says "My favorite food combination ever - beef taco and fries - best place to order combo - Whitey's Jolly Kone in West Sac! In celebration of National Junk Food Day, yes, I took the kids and we indulged...delicious! (They had corn dogs and fries)."

Update July 18, 2009. The City of West Sacramento has closed down the Horse Cow Gallery for code violations...they are now in the process of moving to a new location in the Sacramento area. I'm sad to see this unique collective of people and things leave West Sacramento!

Anneke Moresco sends this great photo of a Swainson's Hawk in flight over her back yard.
These beautiful animals migrate every year from Argentina (for a map of their route see here).

This furry spider scared me this morning when he crawled up my screen. I think he is a bold jumping spider.
Rodney Maples, an old West Sac friend who now lives in West Texas, sent me this photo of his backyard tarantula after seeing our visiting jumping spider.

The Sacramento branch of the Smith Family (24 total--in the Smith, Johnson, Jourdan, Blessing, Bassett, Bartley families) just returned from a week at Dreams in Puerto Vallarta. We had a wonderful time eating, drinking, swimming with dolphins, zip lining, para-sailing, surfing, snorkeling and sight seeing.

Some folks in West Sacramento will recognize this old storefront location that once housed the George Beale's General Store. Frank Norton worked for George Beale in the late 1930's and had his back broken when he was diving a company truck. Following surgery on his back he spent 6 months flat in bed to recover.

This great old public meeting hall (Corner of 4th St & F St In West Sacramento) was the home of the local ILWU Labor Union for years and now is being used by a local church group. We have attended may community events there and always enjoyed dancing on the hardwood floors.

In the summer of 1958 my family stayed at the Flamingo Motel while looking for housing in the West Sacramento area. My dad was already living here and my mom, brother and sister rode the train from Pocatello, Idaho. We were so amazed at the palm trees and the beautiful California weather and we swam from morning to night! Our folks took us across the street to eat dinner at the El Rancho Hotel or down the street to the Capitol Inn and there was usually a floor show and great music in the dining rooms.
