Pink Perfection

Sacramento has the ideal climate for camellias. Camellias are native to Southeast Asia and first came here, like many other things, during the Gold Rush. These beauties are now blooming in my neighbor's garden. Photo by Barbara

  1. Perfect tittle for a prefect flower! In Brittany (Western France) where I live, the climate is also very good for camellias and mine are two red and one white (my favorite). But I must wait for december for the first flowers...

  4. Our "big sister" city, Sacramento, has held a Camelia Day festival for years and years, and Camellia is the office city flower. There used to be a parade and a beauty pageant associated with the event, but I'm not sure if they do that anymore. But I do know that the crown and the sceptor for "Miss Camellia" was custom made by one of the jewelers at Grebitus and Son. The crown was lovely, but it was the sceptor that I found to be the most amazing - a long staff topped by a very life-like Camellia bloom made in Sterling Silver and adorned with diamonds. it was really stunning.

  9. Absolutely beautiful capture! I have a hard time identifying Camelias except that here they grow in the fall whereas the roses are almost over by then. I have only seen white Cmelias so this one was a real trat!

    Come and see my flower.
