Emma's Posole Stew..very good
I have been yearning for some Posole like my Aunt BJ and Uncle Norm from New Mexico would always make when they came to Sacramento for their annual trek..... I decided to order it at Emma's recently and will give it high ratings...2nd place only to my Auntie's... Of course I can never pass up the house salad, salsa bar and great Margarita's...Photo of the Margarita is copied from Yelp.

The News-Ledger Since 1964
The above photo shows the layout board where Steve Marschke, editor of the News-Ledger is pasting up the weekly classified section. When I worked on our newspaper at James Marshall High School many years ago this is how we pasted up the paper...nice to see it still works.

Honeymooners!
I love the visiting ducks that stop by our neighborhood. I hope she enjoys this brief show of protection from this Drake, because Mallards form pairs only until the female lays eggs, at which time she is left by the male.

Sacramento's Second Saturday
On a recent Saturday, we met up with "Twist" a balloon artist and also watched a fashion show on the sidewalk in front of a boutique.
Every month, art galleries in the Sacramento area keep their doors open late and invite the public to participate in the Second Saturday Art Walk. Visitors can grab a bite to eat, walk from gallery to gallery viewing brand new art works, hear live music and explore the region's vibrant art districts.

Fresh salsa fixins at Denios Farmers Market
Stephanie and I drove out to Denio's in Roseville last weekend to take advantage of the wonderful bounty available at the produce market. I love the way this vendor has his veggies displayed in the colors of the Mexican Flag.

Opera Night at Vinces: Pete Rossi Rocks!
Last night my family celebrated my retirement from UC Davis at Vince's Italian Ristorante in West Sacramento. Pete sang one of my all-time favorite songs... Con Te Partiro (Time to Say Goodbye). He is fantastico!!! Pete said they have some remodeling plans coming up soon for the rear dining room that will make it a better layout for live entertainment. Click here to see Debbie's video of Pete singing on YouTube.

Amber and Ice: Dale Chihuly Art Installation at UC Davis
Chihuly Sculpture Finds New Home at the University of California Davis
The glass sculpture by internationally renowned artist Dale Chihuly that previously graced the main lobby at ALZA plaza has found a new home at the University of California at Davis. The 1200-pound chandelier, donated to the University by ALZA with guidance from the Johnson & Johnson Office of Corporate Contributions, hangs in the main lobby of Valley Hall, a new instructional facility with the School of Veterinary Medicine.
Trivia: This is a very sentimental post for me ....as I am retiring from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine today.

Lemonade, Cookies and Blood Drive for Robynn
The First Annual Memorial Robynn Goodell Blood Drive was a very nice tribute to a special friend, wife and mother. Nicole and Aimee headed up the bake sale and Dina sold lemonade. The delicious baked goods and yummy lemonade raised funds to support another local West Sacramento mom battling stage 4 breast cancer. The blood drive was also successful with over 54 people successfully donating that day. Thanks to everyone for their hard work and support to make this annual event a success.

Jackie Greene Concert at Fairytale Town
We took the kids to see Jackie Greene in concert at Fairytale Town Saturday eve, and Sharon posed with Jackie after the concert. It was a great venue for a family concert and his music as always was terrific! Even our 2 1/2 year old Maya is a "Greenehead". Many folks will remember seeing Jackie perform at the Neighbor's Fair and the Riverwalk concerts here in West Sacramento. I think he just keeps getting better every time we see him in concert! Below is a link to the video I recorded of his closing song "Sweet Somewhere Bound".
