U-Haul on West Capitol Avenue

This tall sign is still standing at the U-Haul on West Capitol Avenue. When you drive down the avenue all the old signs are gone now, replaced by the more "sedate" monument style signage that the City of West Sacramento's sign ordinance now requires.

The International World Peace Rose Gardens, an organization involved in sponsoring activities to promote world peace and respect for others, sponsored this project at Southport Elementary School. Southport's garden is a sister garden to the World Peace Rose Garden at Capitol Park in Sacramento.

The top photo shows the new sign for Vince's Ristorante and Motel...the lower photo shows the old sign before the City of West Sacramento enforced the signage ordinance.

Kings Restaurant for Dim Sum

You won't see many cars at King's Chinese Restaurant on West Capitol Avenue during the week, but check out how many are parked there on Sunday morning for Dim Sum. Take a look at the old tall sign on Tom Spaldings Website... it was removed when the sign ordinance was enforced.

The El Rancho Mobile Home Park is located at the site of the old El Rancho Drive-in Movie Theater (1 screen and held 780 cars). Photos of the old signage can be seen on Flickr by Tom Spalding.

Evening at Southport Town Center

I like the contrast of the backdrop of the storm clouds brewing aginst the early evening lights at Southport Town Center. Time for a change of seasons.

November 2008 Theme Day: Books-Magical Realism

Magical Realism--is the term used to describe Gabriel Garcia Marquez writing style. I just finished Love In The Time of Cholera and decided to use a photo of the book for my theme day.
