Remembering Della Beltrami

The picture frames are all straight in heaven today. Adele 'Della' Beltrami lived from May 14, 1919 to February 8, 2012, her entire life in West Sacramento. Preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Dino. Della was the mother of Rose Beltrami and Kathryn Beltrami (Martin Pierucci), and grandmother to Molly Artru (Scott), Joseph Pierucci (April), and Emily Pierucci. She was great-grandmother to Hannah Hoerl and Jonah Artru. Della was born to Constentino and Cecilia Parella on their farm in West Sacramento. She shared their home with brothers, Louie and Charlie, and sisters, Lilly and Cecelia. Della's parents were early farmer/settlers in West Sacramento and had immigrated to California from Asti, Italy.
Della had a wonderful childhood in what was then the very rural West Sacramento, attending dances and parties at the old West Sacramento Clubhouse on Alameda and taking the Sacramento Northern electric train to downtown Sacramento or distant San Francisco. Della and a group of friends joined 200,000 to walk across the Golden Gate Bridge on it's Opening Day in 1937. She also loved to travel to San Francisco by the riverboat Delta King.
She will be deeply missed by anyone who ever tasted her wonderful dinners. Marathon cooking yielded 100 dozen hand rolled raviolis at a time to be packed in careful layers for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The smiles at the dinner table got bigger every time those white ravioli boxes came out. No one could can fresh tomatoes as well as she could. Della lived her life with high standards and love. When asked how she was feeling near the end she replied, '100 percent,' and her parting advice was, 'don't forget the rosemary and garlic.' She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and wonderful caregivers Louisa, Debbie, and Joana.
Services on Wed., February 15, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Cemetery Chapel, 6700 21st Ave., Sacramento, CA. Remembrances may be made in Della's name to Christian Brothers High School and Nor. Cal Services for Deaf & Hard of Hearing. River Cities Funeral Chapel.

About the Rose Orchard in Bryte, CA

Rose Orchard was the name of the Reed family home and pear orchard in Bryte, CA . It was named for Hayward Reed's wife, Rose Mather Reed. Paul Blart --Not!

The Security guy on the Segway at Arden Fair Mall has a great sense of humor...and he didn't mind a gentle ribbing about his likeness to the character played by Kevin James in the movie Mall Cop. When I was in Europe recently there were many city tours offered on Segways...the tours were very popular by young and old!

The Emerald Sea

The Sea Scouts Neptune of West Sacramento sailed their newest addition to the fleet up the Sacramento River from Sausalito on Sunday. Under the leadership of Skipper Nate Eckler, the Sea Scouts offer a youth education program that teaches young adults, ages 13-21, boating and vocational skills.

Subliminal Message Received

While walking through our local Walmart last week this message was caught in the corner of my eye.. The Dr. Pepper marketer did a great job on this one!

Happy New Year 2012

The kids helped celebrate the welcoming of 2012 on London Time which is 8 hours before California. The last two years our family and friends have gathered at the Streets of London Pub in West Sacramento to have lunch, drink a pint or two then enjoy a champagne toast at Midnight London time (4:00 PM California). The Streets of London is a family friendly establishment.

A matter of opinion

Thank you to Steve Watson for sending this photo of the big tri-hull sailboat being built on Reed/Sacramento Avenue near Emma's? According to local opinion it has been deemed both an eyesore and a fascinating work in progress. According to Steve "spoke with the owner this weekend and he is ready to move it to the Bryte boat launch as soon as the "powers that be" allow him to move it. He is hoping to do it Saturday 1/14/12 early in the morning but that will be up to City officials. Then he and his dog plan to motor on out to the Pacific and sail to Hawaii. Living his dream...".

Dear brother of Tony Macias (Ida), Frances Trujillo (Nelson), Ignacio Macias, Eloy Macias (Belinda) & Nena Barrajas). Devoted grandfather of Yvette (Troy), Daniellia (Jeremy), Gabriela, Dennis, Jr. (Athena), Andrea, Angelina, Steven, Erika (Taylor), Vanessa, Aurelia, Christina, Cassandra & Carissa & great-grandfather of Kayla, Tyra, Ezekiel and Joseph (Coyote). Preceded in death by his daughter, Ruth Macias & his brother, Joe Macias. Dad started in the jewelry business with Werner's Jewelry on 15th & I in Sacramento. He and Adelina opened their own family business, Crest Jewelers, in West Sacramento 45 years ago. He was a proud member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1762 of West Sacramento. Christmas Gifts

Our puppy Juno made friends with Bailey while walking to the park on Christmas Day...... Bailey said her darling knitted scarf and hat were gifts from a relative from the UK. I love to knit and I think this is the cutest cap I've ever seen..

The Eyesore...

I have been walking our puppy around the neighborhood since last June and everyday I walk by this interesting unfinished project...my curiosity for what lies beneath that plywood is starting to get the best of me...I think it might be where a cable box should be installed..and I'm hoping it is not exposed electrical wires....

The Traveling Postcard

Be sure to look for this curious art car when you are in the neighborhood of Yoshi's Jazz Club in San Francisco. This unique art piece sports an eclectic garden of flowers and fruits on the roof and scenes of San Francisco landmarks painted on the body. I think it is the most unusual automobile paint job that I have even seen. Thank you Denise Pennington for sharing this photo on the West Sacramento Photo of the Day.

"Under The Sea" on N Street

David Garibaldi painted this beautiful "under the sea" mural on the front of an apartment building on N Street when he was just starting his journey to becoming a distinguished artist...according to a recent SNR interview, David painted the mural in an exchange with his landlord for two months rent.
