The Elkhorn Station Roadside Bar and Grill

Sunday we had lunch at the Elkhorn Station located on the Old River Road to Woodland
and the food was delicious. Always famous for their fish fry, the new owners have a great
menu selection. Pictured below is Buddy Linker with John Turner who is one of the owners of the Station (missing is partner Jason Fernandez )... Post by Barbara

Tammy Mattos remembers driving out the River Road towards Woodland and taking the Elkhorn Station Ferry across the river to get to her Aunt Lorraine's house in Rio Linda. It took about 40 minutes to get to Rio Linda from South Port via this route (at the time it was called Linden Acres). She estimates this memory was from about 1965-66. The whole family would go over so Mom could have her sis do her hair.

This is where my husband and I had our first official date WAY back in the day. I was so pleased to see that it had reopened so that we can continue to dine there!

We stopped in last summer and they had a band playing in the yard--bbq was cooking tri-tip. It was really good.

The food is really good but the atmosphere was a bit young. If you're a woman, you'll get good service. The owner is single and obviously looking!!

The food and service that we've had there have always been excellent. It is one of my favorite places to dine, and I'm in my mid-forties. I guess that's still young!

Our party of nine arrived at 6:30pm Father's Day 2008. We immediately ordered a round of beers and sodas. They were much needed when our orders of buffalo wings arrived. Dripping with spicy sauce, the wings were well made. Some of us are on a wing kick and order them whenever they are offered on a menu. These held up well to our expectations. We were equally satisfied with the pork sandwich, fish and chips, burger and Elkhorn dip. Each entree was cooked to order and flavorful. Not everyone in our group was sure this was the place for us. We're not the types to frequent roadhouses. But thanks to Jackie's friendly and able service and the well prepared food, I think we would all come back. The live music was good, too. Thanks, Jason, for a good meal and an enjoyable evening.

Although not far from Sacramento International Airport, you're across the river and feel you're a hundred miles from nowhere out in the country, with the view and sweet smell of grain fields, antique cars, and a great bar and restaurant. The people are what make it, starting with Jason, the owner (or co-owner?), and Jackie as well as Derek and the rest of the staff. They remember your name and make you feel right at home. I love it Elkhorn Station!!!
