Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby Contest

The top photo shows 8 year old Hal Jourdan working on his third place winner for the Pinewood Derby Car contest by Cub Scout Pack 49. The very first pinewood derby race was held in 1953 at the Scout House in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Congrats to Hal for his third place finish. Thats a great looking car. My son Landry is 9 and we just finished his Pinewood Derby season. Looking forward to next year.

Congrats to all of the cubs and parents who participated. This is a fantastic "life lesson" event!

The Pinewood Derby was one of the highpoints of my scouting experience...both as a scout and the parent of a scout.

So much so that I needed to give back, for what I received from that experience…As a result...I wrote and just released a book about the Derby called "Pinewood-Winning by the Rules" ISBN 978-1-60911-153-3. It shows that the “BIG race” can be won by sticking to the rules…Isn’t that what scouting is all about?

My son was district champ for 3 years in a row and he did that by following every rule and doing his best. It is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble or Borders websites…also through my website www.PinnacleCarRacing.com
