According to one local account "Hefty's been around for quite a while now; it used to be a Pioneer Chicken - that's why the sign looks a little weird, as their logo was a "chuck wagon-in flames" of some sort." This sign will probably be gone soon as the City of West Sacramento continues to enforce the new sign ordinance. Photo by Barbara
Update: The sign is now gone due to the new sign ordinance.

Silver Pampas Grass at Touchstone Lake
This shot was taken last summer when the Papas plumes were full and covered with silky hairs, and the lakeshore was full of shrubs and ground cover. This is to remind us how beautiful our little lake will be again soon.

Stay warm, drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest
This round of storms has kept us home, hugging the fire, and drinking hot tea-- experimenting with my new Nikon DX40 I took this photo of the flames licking upwards on the fire log. Post by Barbara

St. Valentine's Day "You Gotta Have Heart"
Jack and Hal form the heart..Maya would not cooperate. Post by Christy
Heart
Words and Music by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross
Copyright 1955
From the Broadway Musical Damn Yankees
You gotta have heart
All you really need is heart
When the odds are saying you'll never win
That's when the grin should start
You gotta have hope
Mustn't sit around and mope
Nothing's half as bad as it may appear
Wait'll next year and hope
When your luck is battin' zero
Get your chin up off the floor
Mister, you can be a hero
You can open any door
There's nothing to it
But to do it
You've gotta have heart
Miles and miles and miles of heart
Oh, it's fine to be a genius, of course
But keep that old horse before the cart
First, you gotta have heart

I've looked at clouds from both sides now, From up and down, and still somehow --It's cloud illusions I recall. I really don't know clouds at all.

UC Davis Double-Decker Bus
West Sacramento Early College Prep: Hoping to give underserved kids a head-start on college, UC Davis has joined with Sacramento City College and the Washington Unified School District to launch an innovative charter school housed in a wing of the Evergreen Elementary School campus in West Sacramento.
Trivia: I will really miss campus life when I retire...the new crop of beautiful bright-eyed students each year, the food at the Student Union, the campus artwork, the bicyclers, doubledeckers, backpackers and the Whole Earth Festival each spring. The longer I'm on campus the more I grow to love it. It is amazing how many faculty retire, but keep coming back to work for no salary. I doubt there are many professions that can claim this unusual loyalty.

FAT TUESDAY....Lindsay's Berries!!
Served with a Sparkling Wine (we learned we are not to call it Champagne) in Waterford Crystal ..what could be more decadent? These delicious berries were Lindsay's creation and were served at Christy's wine tasting party on Saturday night.
This was really a great way to try different wines --Becky McReynolds was our tasting guru and it was much more fun than a pampered/plastic/cropping/lipstick party.....

A grand view from Grande Vista Avenue
Blues Skies-- Photo by Christy, Lyrics by Irving Berlin:
Blue skies
Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see
Bluebirds
Singing a song
Nothing but bluebirds
All day long
Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When youre in love, my how they fly
Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on
