When Debbie was at UC Santa Cruz she had a yellow VW bug and made a least 100 trips over the Santa Cruz Mountains to come home for the weekend. Every once in a while she would have to take a hammer and hit the battery to get it working again...those were some crazy days!

The Wild Budgie
This parakeet has been visiting our backyard feeder for the last several days. Here he is enjoying a special treat that we put out for him. ~Debbie
Gary Bogue, a daily newspaper columnist who writes about pets, wildlife and environmental issues for Contra Costa Newspapers says:
"When parakeets occur naturally in the wild, they fly in flocks, so parakeets that escape locally will usually team up with flocks of our local wild birds. I’ve seen them with house sparrows, house finches and blackbirds. Most area backyards have bird seed feeders, so there’s plenty to eat and life can be pretty good for a lost parakeet. They learn the ropes of surviving from the sparrows or finches they fly around with."

Streets of London Pub is now open
The Streets of London Pub at Westbridge Plaza is now open. With 21 premium beers on tap it was a hard choice, but Russ had the Guinness, Christy the Bass Ale, Debbie had the apple cider on tap and I chose the Newcastle. The fish and chips were awesome! The patio is comfortable and allows a place for the kids to run around and play while we enjoyed some conversation. There are 3 outdoor firepits that will be great for enjoying some time outside this fall! ~Barbara

The Pioneer Bridge over the Sacramento River
West Sacramento & Sacramento Downtown Riverfront Bridge Alternatives include proposals to widen the existing U.S. 50 Pioneer Bridge across the Sacramento River and build another bridge.
The City of West Sacramento has only three bridges crossing the Sacramento River. These bridges include Pioneer Bridge, Tower Bridge and I Street Bridge. Of these crossings, only one – the Tower Bridge – effectively accommodates pedestrians and bicyclists, in addition to automobiles.

Shenandoah Valley Wine Tasting
These beautiful oak wine barrels are from Cooper Vineyards a boutique family winery located in the Shenandoah Valley of Plymouth, California. The El Dorado County Cabernet is my favorite.
"The use of oak in wine plays a significant role in winemaking and can have a profound effect on the resulting wine, impacting the color, flavor, tannin profile and texture of the wine."

Evening Sunset in West Sacramento
We've been having such incredible weather this year, beginning with an excellent spring and not too many really hot summer days. The past two weeks have had very cool nights with daytime in the low 90s, or a little more. It's like I remember Sacramento back in the 50s and 60s ~ Photo and post by Florene

Wii by Nintendo
This is a photo of my Wii "Mii"(my customized character) finishing a game of bowling. It is just a great game for the whole family...Tom gets a little frustrated when the little boys beat him in bowling and golf though. He lines up and allows for his curve and then get's a 9 count, and the boys just fling the controller willy-nilly and get a strike! We now have the Wii Fit and are working out on it regularly and having fun! ~Barbara

Catching Dorado in Baja
Marv Perrigo caught these beautiful Dorado, (mahi, mahi ) earlier this week, about 18 - 22 lbs each, while vacationing in Baja. He said they were using surface lures, in 80 degree water, about 4 miles off the point of the Bay of Conception. "It was a great day for fishing and we got our limit within 45 minutes fishing off the Dock Holiday." Cathy says "We have several recipes for cooking the Dorado but our favorites are panko encrusted sauteed, fish & chips and of course smoked."
Today Marv, OBJ and Ponytail went out and did not even see a fish, no strikes or sea life and these are the pros in the Mulege fishing community. ~Photo by Cathy

August 1st Theme Day "Metal": Skygate by Roger Barr
Skygate by artist Roger Barr: This abstract sculpture near Pier 39 in San Francisco is dedicated to the memory of Eric Hoffer (1903-1983) Longshoreman-Poet-Philosopher. Eric Hoffer has been a legend and an inspiration to many of the workers who are with the Local #17 Longshoreman Union at the Port of Sacramento.
I shot this photo after Christy and I had been offered the royal treatment with lunch and a tour of the Celebrity cruise ship in the background. ~ Barbara
