The weather calls for a relaxing day on the golf course..when he is finished you'll find Ian back behind the bar at the Streets of London Pub serving bangers & mash. Photo by Danny Luna.
Trivia: Mashie-Niblick is an obsolete golf club invented by Archibald Barrie used from 1903 up until about the 1940s. Upon the introduction of the standardized numbered iron set produced by the Spaulding Sporting Goods Company in the early 1930s, the Mashie-Niblick gradually gave way to numbered convention that used the numbers 1-9 to label the iron clubs. http://www.britishgolfmuseum.co.uk/it_all_started.htm

Curious George
Sharon's Curious George collection --some items date back 40 years.
Trivia: The Curious George books were a true collaboration written by the wife-and-husband team of Margret and H.A. (Hans) Rey. Hans was usually in charge of the ideas and the illustrations, while Margret handled the plot and the writing.
In 1940, the Reys, who were German-born Jews living in Paris, fled on bikes as Hitler's army marched down the Champs-Elysees. They carried only a few items with them, including an early Curious George manuscript. Their refugee travels, which ultimately took them to New York by way of Spain, Portugal and Brazil, are recounted in the picture book "The Journey That Saved Curious George," by Louise Borden.

Sharon's Housewarming
We went to Sharon's house warming last weekend to celebrate her new home purchase in West Sacramento. Sharon, who has worked as a volunteer for non-profit agencies around the globe since graduating from college, always knew she would return to Sacramento to make her home, but we are so happy she chose to plant her roots in the best city in Northern California...that would be West Sacramento of course.

Spring Fever
Beware of spring fever--even these garden fairies seem ready to succumb to the romantic notions that occur in the Spring.
Trivia: Anthropologists have suggested that spring fever may have developed over the course of human evolution. They point out that early humans often spent winter in a state of near-hibernation. Then, when spring arrived, they would enter an active period of intense hunting, gathering and procreating.

Peter Witt Streetcar
This ex-Milan Peter Witt Streetcar carries the two-tone green color scheme.
Trivia: Peter Witt was a Cleveland Railway commissioner, who designed a model of streetcar, which is known by his name. Peter Witt cars were also built in Italy and used in several Italian cities, including Milan, where 200 Ventotto vehicles (introduced in 1928) are still in use. Eleven ex-Milan cars can be seen today on the streets of San Francisco, where they operate on the F Market & Wharves streetcar line.

Baby Barn Owl
Thank you Anneke for sending this photo of an orphaned baby barn owl being raised at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum. Anneke is a wildlife veterinarian from West Sacramento.
Lindsay Wildlife Museum is a non-profit organization that takes care of orphaned and injured native wildlife. Additionally, it has a live collection museum with presentations and other interactive exhibits that make it a great day trip destination. It is a wonderful place to learn about how to take good care of the wildlife in your backyard; they have an extensive program with something for everyone, from toddlers to avid birders. They do all this mainly with donations from the public that brings animals or visits the museum. Their website is full of information and fun stuff: http://www.wildlife-museum.org/

Giant Carpenter Bee
Easter Sunday was a beautiful day to enjoy the backyard...an unexpected guest stopped by to enjoy a treat from the Lillies..
Trivia: There are some 500 species of carpenter bee in 31 subgenera.[1] Their name comes from the fact that nearly all species build their nests in burrows in dead wood, bamboo, or structural timbers. Carpenter bees can be important pollinators on open-faced flowers

Skateboard Artistry
Showing off for the camera on a lovely spring day! Debbie caught this great shot of rider in mid air with the basketball hoop behind him.
Trivia: The modern skateboard originated in California in the late 1950's. By the mid 1960's they were mass produced and sold throughout the United States. Some say that the skateboard was created directly from the adaptation of a single roller skate taken apart and nailed to a 2x4, and that it was often surfers looking to recreate the feel of surfing on the land when the surf was flat.

Becky Munn May sends this first days of spring photo from Susanville. The Bizz Johnson trail traverses a beautiful remote area that’s inaccessible by roads, so there are no cars, no noise, and no crossings! It is named for U.S. Congressman Harold T. 'Bizz' Johnson, who pioneered the Rail/Trail legislation. This trail runs from the town of Susanville, west approximately 25 miles to the town of Westwood.
