Born August 27, 1919 in North Dakota and a long time resident of West Sacramento Gene "Pops" Evenson passed away on October 8, 2011 at the age of 92. He met and married the love of his life Verna Jean Evenson during World War II, after a whirlwind 6 week courtship, and they were married for 62 years before her death in 2005. Gene and Verna were members of the West Sacramento Moose Lodge where we became friends 20 years ago. Gene was a master carpenter and worked many years at the California State Capitol. Gene was also a long-time volunteer at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee and loved to dance the polka. He will be missed by many friends and family in West Sacramento.
EVENSON, Eugene Promoted into heaven on October 8, 2011 at age 92. He is now with his loving wife Verna after sharing 62 years of marriage. Eugene is survived by his children, Vernon (Deborah), Cindy (Jim), Hokey (Pat) and Gloria, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Eugene was a 60 year member of Carpenters Local # 46 and a member of West Sacramento Moose Lodge # 1762. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1066 26th Street Sacramento, CA. Reception to follow at West Sacramento Moose Lodge, 3142 Jefferson Blvd. In lieu of flowers donations preferred to St. Francis Church, the West Sacramento Moose Lodge or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to River Cities Funeral Chapel.
