Curious George

Sharon's Curious George collection --some items date back 40 years.

Trivia: The Curious George books were a true collaboration written by the wife-and-husband team of Margret and H.A. (Hans) Rey. Hans was usually in charge of the ideas and the illustrations, while Margret handled the plot and the writing.

In 1940, the Reys, who were German-born Jews living in Paris, fled on bikes as Hitler's army marched down the Champs-Elysees. They carried only a few items with them, including an early Curious George manuscript. Their refugee travels, which ultimately took them to New York by way of Spain, Portugal and Brazil, are recounted in the picture book "The Journey That Saved Curious George," by Louise Borden.
