1955 Studebaker President Coupe or ?? "Speedster "

"The President Coupe (maybe Speedster??) was built for one year only, during that year they produced 2,215 cars. The Speedster was Studebaker's response to Fords' Thunderbird and Chevrolets' Corvette. The car was equipped with a 259 cubic-inch Passmaster engine. The car weighed 3,301 lbs and had a base price of $3,253. " (From Conceptcarz.com) This particular model is usually parked in my parking lot at UCD.

What a nice car! My first car was a '64 thunderbird, and i think it got about 8 miles to the gallon... but it really felt like you were driving something substantial.

The Studebaker posted on January 10, 2008 is not a Speedster. I should know i have one. My dad bought it in 1959.

Hi anonymous...please just don't hit and run...if you have more information or a photo of your father's " 1955 Studebaker President Speedster", that was built for one year only, please share it.

Okay, I promised myself to come out from my "anonymous closet" and properly post no longer hiding behind my shell. My name is Eugene H. Krabs and I know what a speedster is. Geesh, are you on some new allergy medicine or what?

Here is what they really look like. Wild turkeys swimming in ponds, faux speedsters.....what's next on this photo site?

I used to own this car so I can tell anyone interested that it is a 1955 Studebaker President State Sedan. It was the top of the line 4 door in 1955 and very few have survived due to lack of collector interest. About 14,500 were built. There was also a detrimmed Deluxe sedan of which only 1019 were built. The President series included a 2 door Hardtop coupe that was specially trimmed and badged to become the President 'Speedster' Special, the originals of which were trucked around the country for the Autoramas in late '54. They were popular enough that Studebaker put the car into Production, originally only in Green & Yellow with a Yellow leather interior, and later in Black & White, Gray and White, and Pink and Gray all with an Ivory leather interior. 2215 were built and they survive in a veyr high % due to brisk collector interest. The President in this pic is all original but should be on wide whitewall tires.

Clue #1. It says "President" right on the rear fender!!

A good Speedster is worth 30K. This President is not!

Speedsters also came in a three tone paint combo -Gray, Pink and Cream (White).

what I'd like to know is how many of those speedsters were painted in the pink and gray. If anyone can tell me would you please send the info to wm-f_cody@yahoo.com thank you

Ha, ha ha. That was great. Randomly came across Pics of my car -well not random, I was google searching for "speedsters" because I own one of those too. I bought this black Sedan from a friend who posted earlier and straightened things out. Glad to know it is enjoyed and jogs good memories for people, that's why I drive it...well that and I love driving it. Ironic it was labeled speedster as that is my other car, a true "lemon lime" or yellow and green speedster. It too was occasionally parked in that area for a while. Now I'm elsewhere on campus.
