Third Strike Cafe Opening May 27, 2014
We drove by the new Third Strike Cafe located at 630 3rd Street. I shot this photo from the street as we drove by this morning, but it looks like it will be a cafe with a cool beer garden, and it is just a short walk from Raley Field.
This update comes from Janice Orr:
"I just wanted to thank you for posting the photo of the new Third Strike Cafe. It was my grandparents home and my dad has been working tirelessly to transform it into a coffee shop and plans to offer homemade smoked meats and rice dishes (family recipes) for the lunch crowd or hungry River Cats fans. Lots of blood, sweat and tears went into the place and seeing your blog post brought a happy tear to my eye. I live in St. Louis, MO, so have not been home to see the coffee shop since last summer. I'm planning a trip this June and can't wait to see it finally finished. Thanks again and I hope you enjoy the newest addition to the neighborhood!"

Raley Field - John Legend in Concert with India.Airie
Raley Field was the place to be Friday evening for the John Legend Concert. The acoustics were fantastic, the weather was perfect (even a romantic full moon overhead) and the crowd all felt the magic of John's fantastic performance.

Camping in the 95605
The kids were making s'mores at their backyard campout! When it was time
for bed the kids dragged in their sleeping bags to crash on the living room floor.
Thanks Christy for these great photos!
Remember the old days when you looked up into the sky and could see the stars?
When we were kids we would line up the sleeping bags and sleep under the stars in
our Alabama Court backyard. We would start with about 6 of us then one by one
would sneak back into the house when the crickets started singing really loud or the
screetch of an owl scared us. If you made it all night then your bedding and hair would
be soaked from the morning dew...great kid memories.

Opera Night at Vinces: Pete Rossi Rocks!
Last night my family celebrated my retirement from UC Davis at Vince's Italian Ristorante in West Sacramento. Pete sang one of my all-time favorite songs... Con Te Partiro (Time to Say Goodbye). He is fantastico!!! Pete said they have some remodeling plans coming up soon for the rear dining room that will make it a better layout for live entertainment. Click here to see Debbie's video of Pete singing on YouTube.

Jackie Greene Concert at Fairytale Town
We took the kids to see Jackie Greene in concert at Fairytale Town Saturday eve, and Sharon posed with Jackie after the concert. It was a great venue for a family concert and his music as always was terrific! Even our 2 1/2 year old Maya is a "Greenehead". Many folks will remember seeing Jackie perform at the Neighbor's Fair and the Riverwalk concerts here in West Sacramento. I think he just keeps getting better every time we see him in concert! Below is a link to the video I recorded of his closing song "Sweet Somewhere Bound".
