Hungry Heros

These hungry fire fighters made a quick stop by the SactoMoFo's food truck event in Lowe's parking lot last night on their way back to their home station house on Sacramento Avenue. They were called to the West Side to assist in putting out two grass fires in the Southport area. The Fire and Police personnel in West Sacramento are just the best and we really appreciate their service in protecting our community.

Honoring Grandpa Frank Norton

Photobucket
My grandpa, Frank Norton was born on this day in 1910 in Broderick, CA. My sister and I are third generation West Sacramentans. This was grandpa's badge when he was Commissioner of the Washington Fire Department. Just a little bit of history to honor my grandpa's memory. He was the ultimate story teller and historian on the history of The Town of Washington, Broderick and West Sacramento.  Post by Debbie.

Mangia, Mangia!! Spaghetti Feed for Michael G. Carr

On Friday, October 26,2012 at 6:00 p.m. the west Sacramento VFW Hall, located at 905 Drever Street, will host a Spaghetti Feed to benefit retired West Sacramento Fire Captain Mike Carr's fight against cancer. Mike was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in May of this year and has been valiantly fighting ever since. Mike’s fight has now come to the point where he will need a bone marrow transplant in San Francisco at UCSF. The transplant is an out-patient process that requires Mike to stay in San Francisco for approximately 3 months. During this time, Mike and Betty, his wife of 46 years will need to find housing close to UCSF so that Mike can get to his daily appointments. As you are aware housing in SF is not cheap and will likely cause Mike and Betty a hardship if they do not receive some help from friends and family. We ask that you join us in support of Mike and Betty by attending the Spaghetti Feed, or by making a donation. Tickets are $20.00 a person. Please call to RSVP by October 15, if you plan to attend since seating is limited.

Donations, if you cannot attend, can be made by calling any of the numbers below. Checks can be made out to Michael G. Carr.
Thanks so much for your help!
Please call either: Bob Perry 371-8839, Don Logsdon 371-5822 or Julie Coulombe 483-8808.

The firefighters in West Sacramento are great! The James Marshall Preschool recently had a field trip to West Sacramento Fire Station 45 where they had a demonstration of a fireman getting into his gear for a call. The bottom photo shows the new fire pole with a safety gate surround.

Keith says "I live in Southport near Nugget and several times a week the West Sac FD does practice drills in the vacant lots behind our house. I thought it would be fun to grab a few shots and send them your way. I think its a good example of our fire department at work."

Station 45-West Sacramento

West Sacramento Fire Station 45 located new Jefferson and Lake Washington Boulevard was completed in the Summer of 2007 and was the first completely new fire facility constructed in West Sacramento since becoming a city. This modern state of the art facility is 27,000 square feet and cost $6.9 million.

Debbie says that one of the reasons the stations is so big is because our police department has an outpost in the building.
================================
I have been tagged by Jana at Susanville Daily Photo (Susanville (USA) by Jana) to comment on my New Year's Resolutions. According to the game, I am then to tag 3 other blogs to do the same.

"When it comes to New Year’s Resolutions we seem to fall into four categories: 1) quite serious about them, 2) flippant about them, 3) pressured to do them, or 4) do not do them. So, the purpose of this little game is to let us know which category you are in. I will give mine, then tag 3 other sites to do the same thing."

For me--simply put--I'm a category 4-I do not do them anymore. More appropriate for me would be Category F (for failure)...

So now to continue the harrassment, I tag the follow:

Mazatlan (Mexico) by Kate
