River City High School Summer of 2009
River City High School relocated in 2009 to the beautiful new campus located on Jefferson Boulevard and Linden Avenue. Seems such a shame that the City of West Sacramento and Washington Unified School district can't get together to turn these fields into a sports complex/baseball park to benefit the kids in our City.

Westmore Oaks Dragons Jog-a-Thon
A big thank you to the parents and families of students at Westmore Oaks School who worked hard to raise many thousands of dollars on their Jog-a-Thon held on October 29. The monies raised go directly to the teachers to help purchase supplies for their classrooms.

The Tattoo Gals..
These students were in charge of the "Temporary Tattoo" table at the Westmore Oaks School Carnival last weekend. Over 300 students and parents attended the PTA fundraiser. We especially like the hand painted poster advertising the event...seems like most folks are using computer generated artwork these days..this one is very charming!

Relic at the old River City High Campus
I walked around the recently retired River City High Campus on Clarendon Street and saw this great old flat bed truck parked in back. The campus will re-open in the fall as the new West More Oaks School housing K thru 8th grades.
More photos of my walk about the campus that day can be found here on Webshots.

The Metal Playground Structures at West More Oaks School
I remember playing on these old metal playground structures at West More Oaks School when I was a kid....now my kids and grandkids have also enjoyed this playground. I guess they could be considered "antiques"...so I wanted to take some photos before someone with the school district decided they should be replaced....

Westmore Oaks School-South Campus
The Washington Unified School District built Westmore Oaks Elementary School in 1952. Elmer Reuter was principal of Westmore Oaks school from 1952-1981. The campus has been divided into two locations with the 6th through 8th grades being housed at the Westmore Oaks North Campus on West Acre Road. Westmore Oaks North and South will be consolidated into one campus when they relocate to the old River City High School on Clarendon--the new facility is in planning and design stages now.
Trivia: Our family has over 50 years of memories at this campus. My brother Howard, sister Kathye and my daughter Christy attended Westmore Oaks School when Mr. Reuter was the principal. Now my grandson attends Westmore Oaks South...~Barbara

Phil Tulga: " Music Through the Curriculum"
The Westmore Oaks PTA sponsored a workshop by Phil Tulga-a member of the Jazz Studies faculty at CSUS.
During the "Math Science and Sound"workshop, students (and their parents) learned about the science of sound, made several musical instruments, then played them together in an exciting orchestral production. See this YouTube video for a highlight of the event.

Remembering Principal Elmer Reuter
Most baby boomers who went to school in West Sacramento will remember Elmer Reuter as the prinicipal of Westmore Oaks School from 1952-1981. He was a great teacher and friend to many folks in our area and his old fashioned discipline style commanded respect from both his students and their parents. He spent many hours caring for the plants and shrubs he planted at his school. He was truly one of our home-town heros. ~Barbara

New River City High School Opening Fall 2008
The new River City High School sits quite far back on the land so it is hard to see much detail, but these are photos of the construction in progress. The top 3 photos were from Jefferson Boulevard and the bottom is from the Linden Avenue side. The new school is scheduled to open this fall 2008. ~ Barbara
