Art in the Washington District

A cool temporary mural dresses up the old City-owned garage on 5th and C Street to promote public art in the Washington District. We love it and are excited to see what public art is coming in the future.

Spring Art Project-Neighborhood Mural

John, Ruth, Mason and Connor decided to brighten up their corner of the world over the Spring Break by painting this beautiful mural on their street facing fence. John is the artist and created the design, but the whole family was involved in the painting and planting. Thank you for making our world a better place.

New Water Tower on Jefferson Boulevard

A new 80-foot cell tower designed to resemble a water tower has been installed at 3200 Jefferson Blvd., near Tower Mart and Linden Road. On one side is a mural of wine grapes and the other side says The City of West Sacramento.  

The Traveling Postcard

Be sure to look for this curious art car when you are in the neighborhood of Yoshi's Jazz Club in San Francisco. This unique art piece sports an eclectic garden of flowers and fruits on the roof and scenes of San Francisco landmarks painted on the body. I think it is the most unusual automobile paint job that I have even seen. Thank you Denise Pennington for sharing this photo on the West Sacramento Photo of the Day.

"Under The Sea" on N Street

David Garibaldi painted this beautiful "under the sea" mural on the front of an apartment building on N Street when he was just starting his journey to becoming a distinguished artist...according to a recent SNR interview, David painted the mural in an exchange with his landlord for two months rent.

This Sacramento Midtown Mural Project on the American Market and Deli building on N Street was created by Shaun Turner and Dan Osterhoff.  SubMerge Music+Art+Lifestyle Magazine has a great map of a suggested Bike Mural Tour around the streets of Sacramento.

Molly's Original Art

Eppie's has good food and a gallery wall of original artwork. We like the ones signed by the artist "Molly".

Cute little rabbit cutouts grace this neighborhood flowerbed!

Clark Kent house...

Superman occasionally leaves his clothing in a telephone booth for later retrieval but we didn't see any sign of Clark or his clothes hanging around this house.

Cowboy Art on Jefferson Boulevard

This horse ranch has a beautiful iron gate at the entry to the property. We always enjoy the drive out Jefferson Boulevard ...there are several beautiful custom homes and ranches just before you reach the deep water channel.

Amazing Glass and Metal Wind Ornament

I think this metal and glass lawn sculpture is amazing..stainless steel bowls and martini glasses make up the decorative elements, and some recycled pipes and fittings hold it all together. It stands about 6 feet tall and I'm sure it must make some interesting sounds when the wind blows.

Grotto for Virgin Mary

This decorative lawn niche is much like those seen in the countryside of central Italy, this statue of Mary is also lit for night time display!

Evolution of the Stone Man

We love to watch the interesting progression of Mr. Russ Smith's stone art man. This is his latest iteration...the photo below is the previous design.

Southwestern Style in Southport

Diane Rake has a beautiful new paint job on her home in West Sacramento and we think the Southwestern colors blend perfectly with the solar collection panels on their tile roof! For the record, Diane said that her electric bill is so low now that PG&E actually owes her money at the end of the month!

Astronomy 101 in the Neighborhood

By the shadow cast on the wall, you can tell we shot this photo at a bit after 11:00 AM. Sundials are the oldest known instruments for keeping track of time. A sundial needs two things: a set of markings that indicate the time, and something to cast a shadow onto those markings. See below for how you can create your own sundial.

Here comes the sun!

Driving around the neighborhoods of West Sac we found the sun...this is across the street from the sundial house. Love this version "Here comes the Sun" by Richie Havens--

Texas Lone Star

This "Texas Lone Star" decoration is known as a sign of good luck and fortune, and...it could mean these folks have roots in Texas. One of our good friends, Neva May, was born 88 years ago in Sweetwater, Texas, and she can tell you some great stories about the World's Rattlesnake Roundup held there each year. As far as we know she never sang this song in the Miss Snake Charmer Pageant.

When I die I may not go to heaven
I don't know if they let cowboys in

Texas is as close as I've been.

Sticks and Stone art in the neighborhood

I really like this artist's yard designs made from driftwood and stones. So simple but so charming creating a peaceful Zen Garden on Reuter Drive.

Art in the neighborhood!

This house on Park Boulevard has a unique metal sculpture on display...we think it is a bucket from a crane, artfully plunked on the front lawn with wild flowers blooming underneath.

Per John Lucas of West Sacramento: "Hello- I'm the proud owner of this thing..

BTW it's an old dredge bucket from a sidedraft dredge late 1800's vintage. These are the same long boom dredges that were used to build the levee's that surround West Sacramento.
There is a larger one on display at the RR museum in old sac . Enjoy!"

Iron Sculpture at the Ironworks Loft Homes
