Simplicity, harmony and beauty
This lush bed of wildflowers makes me want to lay down and bury my nose in the moist grasses.....sometimes I am such a romantic! Beautiful scenes such as this one along the river are slowly disappearing, with more development in the Southport area.

The Pioneer Bridge over the Sacramento River
West Sacramento & Sacramento Downtown Riverfront Bridge Alternatives include proposals to widen the existing U.S. 50 Pioneer Bridge across the Sacramento River and build another bridge.
The City of West Sacramento has only three bridges crossing the Sacramento River. These bridges include Pioneer Bridge, Tower Bridge and I Street Bridge. Of these crossings, only one – the Tower Bridge – effectively accommodates pedestrians and bicyclists, in addition to automobiles.

Evening Sunset in West Sacramento
We've been having such incredible weather this year, beginning with an excellent spring and not too many really hot summer days. The past two weeks have had very cool nights with daytime in the low 90s, or a little more. It's like I remember Sacramento back in the 50s and 60s ~ Photo and post by Florene

Sunflower Patch on I-80
This beautiful sunflower patch is located just west of the Yolo Causeway. ~ Barbara
Trivia: "When the plant is in the bud stage, it tends to track the movement of the sun across the horizon. Once the flower opens into the radiance of yellow petals, it faces east. No one knows why. However, it is likely a defensive response. Facing south or west could result in sun-scalding of seeds during very hot days."

"Sundog" over West Sacramento
Thursday afternoon at the park...the sun had a large rainbow ring around it. ~Photo by Debbie
Trivia: The halos (or, sometimes known as "sundogs" around the sun) are usually seen when there are high clouds overhead. Those clouds are made of tiny ice crystals, which will refract the sunlight much like a prism will.

Redwing Blackbird in Fields of Gold
This photo was Anneke's entry in West Sacramento's Annual 15 days in May photo contest. Although she did not win, I'm positive it was one of the most beautiful photos entered this year...The photo was shot in a field of golden mustard blooming across from the Lowe's on Lake Washington Boulevard. Thanks for sharing it on our website Anneke. ~ Barbara

"Beauty in Progress" Landscape Award
In 1994, the City of West Sacramento awarded Harold and Virgina Turner the 2nd annual "Beauty in Progress" award for residential landscape design. Their house offers such a wonderful ambiance when you drive by that it made me want to rush home and start doing some gardening...I've heard that later in the spring their pink dogwoods will be in full bloom. The mail carrier told me it is her favorite house on her route!

Railroad Tressel on Gregory Road and South River Road
When the kids were little it was always fun to drive out Gregory Road under the old tressel to South River Road and see the wild peacocks. It is still such a beautiful and scenic drive, but I haven't seen the peacocks for years. This photo by Debbie.

Wild Spanish Mustard
Wild mustard is in full bloom everywhere in West Sacramento. The skyline of the City of Sacramento looks over us in the background.
The blooming of the wild mustard calls us to remember the Legend of Spanish Mustard at The Napa Valley Mustard Festival as it celebrates its fifteenth season . ~Barbara

Up a Lazy "Sacramento" River
On the River Road on the way to Woodland last week. I would say that some of the river-folks have a pretty nice life style. Photo by Barbara.
Up the Lazy River
as sung by the Mills Brothers
Lyrics by: Sidney Arnondin
Up a lazy river by the old mill streamThat lazy, hazy river where we both can dream
Linger in the shade of an old oak tree
Throw away your troubles, dream a dream with me
Up a lazy river where the robins song
Wakes up in the mornin, as we roll along
Blue skies up above ....everyones in love
Up a lazy river, how happy we will be, now
Up a lazy river with me

Under the Southport Sky
I've looked at clouds from both sides now, From up and down, and still somehow --It's cloud illusions I recall. I really don't know clouds at all.
