This time of the year brings families together for a variety of reasons, whether it be for a holiday celebration, family dinners, gift exchange, visit from long lost cousin...or longstanding cribbage and Farkel competitions. Jo says these are her family's favorites. Photo by Jo Corbin.

Jungle on the riverbank
A spectacular setting with seasonal colors, this beautiful jungle of vines grows on the West Sacramento River Bank on South River Road. Newspaper accounts from the old days say this jungle extended all the way up the river to the I Street Bridge and was the habitat of many sterno-crazed hobos. Photo by Barbara.

Ikea's Flags at Night
"IKEA is committed to creating a better everyday life for all which includes being an environmentally responsible company." Photo by Barbara
Before our store opened, Christy, Debbie and I would go for daylong shopping trips to the Berkeley Store. Now we can shop locally...and there is no better place to do lunch on a Saturday afternoon.

CDPB Theme Day December 1st: "Bridges": The Tower Bridge
The above photo of the Tower Bridge was taken while it was closed for construction of the expanded pedestrian walkway. Below is an evening shot after the bridge was reopened. The Tower Bridge was built in 1934 is on the list of Historical Sites and Buildings in West Sacramento.
"The original M Street Bridge (Tower Bridge) was built by the Sacramento Northern Electric Railroad in 1911 and linked the cities of Washington (West Sacramento) and Sacramento. It carried electric railcars (similar to the present Light-rail) loaded with passengers and freight." See the Tower Bridge History for more information.

The Ziggurat Building est. 1998
Construction of this 400,000 square foot office building on the Sacramento River cost 60 million dollars and was partially financed by the West Sacramento Redevelopment Agency. The building was designed by architect: EM Kado Associates in accordance with the traditional rules of the Chinese philosophy of Feng Shui. Photo by Barbara
Trivia: A ziggurat was a temple tower of the ancient Mesopotamian valley and Iran, having the form of a terraced pyramid of successively receding stories or levels. They were believed to be dwelling places for the gods.
