VFW Hall in Bryte
According to Ronald J. Ramos, the VFW Hall in Bryte was built by Jordan "Pappy" Ramos originally as the Bryte Theater. It showed one movie, The King and the Egg and closed then sold to the VFW as a meeting place for all of the many WWII veterans who lived in Bryte. A monument to Pappy is in the front at the entrance. Thank you Ron, for sharing this bit of history about our wonderful community!

We have been hanging around the Capitol Bowl since it opened in the 1950's as El Rancho Bowl. The new interior remodel of the lanes, restaurant/bar and sitting area is absolutely beautiful. We had lunch in the new restaurant last week the food was fantastic!

Construction continues at the Duck Pond
The workers were there again today to finish the walkway project at the Duck Pond on Linden Avenue. The foreman said the project was temporarily stopped until the City approved their plan. During the shutdown some of their materials were stolen including many of the bricks being used to build the new retaining wall. The estimated time of completion will about 2 weeks from now. Let's hope the thieves will stay away from the materials and equipment during this time.

Wild Strawberries
Thank you to my dear friend Carolyn for sharing these great photos
of her backyard Mockingbirds. Carolyn said "My brother and others
who have wild strawberry plants say they are always fighting them
and want to get rid of them. I love them, as much as these mockingbirds
do. The birds have been enjoying themselves for weeks."

The "Broderick" Post Office
The Broderick Branch Post Office is located at 900 Sacramento Avenue in the shopping center anchored by Arteagas Market. Due to budget cuts, the historic Bryte Branch closed their doors last year so now this is the only Post Office serving the North Side of our City.
